One of Italy’s most iconic nightlife institutions, Tenax in Florence has upgraded its main room sound system with K-array’s new Dragon KXT18P loudspeakers. The installation replaces the venue’s previous K-array line array system with a powerful point-source configuration designed to deliver high SPL, exceptional clarity and consistent coverage across the dancefloor.

Twelve KXT18P loudspeakers are deployed in four clusters, supported by sixteen Thunder KS4P subwoofers to create a powerful yet controlled low-frequency foundation. Powered by five Kommander KA208 amplifiers delivering 40 channels of amplification, the system ensures Tenax can continue hosting world-class DJs while delivering a dynamic, immersive dancefloor experience.

Tenax has long maintained a close technical partnership with K-array, regularly upgrading its sound system to maintain the venue’s reputation as one of Europe’s most respected underground club destinations.

For the latest upgrade, the goal was to improve sonic impact and clarity across the main dancefloor while maintaining the venue’s distinctive aesthetic and ensuring reliable performance for long club nights featuring internationally renowned DJs.
The installation centred around K-array’s new Dragon KXT18P point-source loudspeaker, the largest model in the Dragon series.

Twelve units were deployed across the room in four clusters of three loudspeakers positioned in each corner of the main dancefloor. This configuration creates horizontally arrayed coverage, delivering high sound pressure levels while maintaining precise directional control and consistent sound distribution across the venue.
Low-frequency reinforcement is provided by sixteen Thunder KS4P subwoofers. Twelve of these are positioned alongside the DJ booth, with the remaining units placed on the opposite side of the dancefloor to maintain balanced bass response throughout the room.

The system is powered by five Kommander KA208 amplifiers, delivering a total of 40 channels of amplification. Each amplifier provides eight channels at 2500 watts, supplying the power required for the KXT18P loudspeakers and KS4P subwoofers while ensuring stable operation during extended club sessions.

Additional attention was given to DJ monitoring, where a Dragon KXT18P paired with a Thunder KS3P subwoofer on each side of the booth provides artists with the same sonic power and clarity experienced on the dancefloor.

Designing a sound system for a venue like Tenax requires balancing raw sonic power with clarity and precision.

The venue regularly hosts high-energy electronic music events where high sound pressure levels are expected, but the system must also preserve definition and musical detail to support a wide variety of musical styles and live performances.

Another challenge was achieving consistent sound coverage across the entire dancefloor while maintaining the intimate atmosphere that defines Tenax. The venue’s layout and audience positioning required careful system design to ensure even distribution of sound without creating excessive hotspots or loss of clarity in certain areas.

The solution was a point-source loudspeaker configuration using the Dragon KXT18P. The system’s tri-axial design — featuring an 18-inch woofer paired with dual coaxial compression drivers — allows the loudspeakers to deliver extremely high SPL levels, up to 144dB, while maintaining tight control and intelligibility across the frequency spectrum.

Strategic placement of the loudspeaker clusters and subwoofer distribution ensured the system could produce powerful low-end energy while preserving sonic balance throughout the room.

Tenax is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most important electronic music venues, with a legacy spanning more than four decades and a reputation for hosting some of the world’s most influential DJs.

The installation of K-array’s Dragon KXT18P system represents a major evolution in the venue’s audio infrastructure, allowing Tenax to deliver the next generation of club sound while preserving the immersive dancefloor experience that has defined the venue for decades.

The system combines exceptional output capability with precision engineering. With twelve Dragon KXT18P loudspeakers capable of delivering up to 144dB SPL and a carefully designed subwoofer deployment using sixteen Thunder KS4P units, the installation achieves both immense power and remarkable clarity.

Equally important is the system’s impact on the performer experience. By providing artists with powerful and accurate DJ monitoring, the system ensures that performers can fully connect with the energy of the crowd.

By blending advanced loudspeaker engineering with thoughtful system design, the Tenax upgrade raises the bar for high-performance club sound systems and reinforces the venue’s position at the forefront of global nightlife culture.
