The Prince Moulay Abdellah Hockey Arena in Rabat, Morocco, one of the most advanced sports venues in Africa, required a high-performance audio system capable of delivering clear, consistent sound across a large, reverberant space.

Installed by EcmaPro Systems, the solution combines K-array Mugello line arrays, Thunder subwoofers and Kommander amplification to provide 360-degree coverage for sporting events, announcements and live performances.

Leveraging beam steering technology and integrated DSP control, the system ensures precise sound distribution while maintaining high output and intelligibility. The result is a flexible, future-ready audio infrastructure supporting both international competition and multipurpose event programming.

EcmaPro Systems was tasked with delivering a high-performance audio solution for the newly constructed Olympic-sized hockey arena within the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex.

The brief required a system capable of supporting a wide range of event formats, from sporting announcements and ceremonies to concerts and large-scale public gatherings, while maintaining consistent intelligibility across a large audience area.

To address these requirements, the integrator deployed a system centred around 48 K-array Mugello KH2P line array elements, supported by 16 Thunder KS3 subwoofers and powered by nine Kommander KA208 amplifiers.

The Mugello line array system incorporates electronic beam steering technology, allowing precise control over vertical and horizontal sound dispersion. This enabled the integrator to optimise coverage across the arena seating areas while minimising reflections and acoustic interference.

Subwoofer deployment was carefully designed to provide consistent low-frequency reinforcement across the venue, ensuring impact for music playback and event production without compromising clarity for speech.

The entire system is integrated within the K-array Connect ecosystem, enabling remote configuration, signal routing and system management via mobile devices, alongside advanced tuning through K-framework software.

K-array’s engineering team worked closely with EcmaPro Systems throughout the project, providing acoustic modelling, system design support and on-site tuning to ensure the installation met performance expectations.

The result is a scalable and flexible audio infrastructure capable of adapting to the varied demands of a modern multipurpose arena.

The primary challenge was achieving consistent audio coverage and intelligibility within a large, acoustically complex arena environment.

The venue’s scale, combined with reflective surfaces and high crowd noise levels, creates significant challenges for speech clarity and even sound distribution. Without careful system design, these factors can lead to uneven coverage and reduced intelligibility.

Another challenge was delivering high output levels required for large-scale events while maintaining control over sound dispersion. The system needed to avoid excessive reflections and energy build-up that could negatively impact clarity.

The multipurpose nature of the venue also introduced complexity. The audio system had to perform equally well for sports events, ceremonies and live performances, requiring a flexible and adaptable design.

Finally, the system needed to integrate seamlessly into the venue’s architecture without creating visual clutter, while remaining robust enough for long-term use in a high-capacity public venue.

This project sets a new benchmark for arena audio design within emerging international sports infrastructure.

From a technical standpoint, the installation demonstrates how advanced line array technology and beam steering can be used to deliver precise, intelligible sound across a large-scale venue without compromising output or coverage consistency.

The integration of K-array’s Mugello line arrays, Thunder subwoofers and Kommander amplification provides a powerful yet controlled audio solution capable of adapting to a wide range of event types.

The project also stands out for its regional significance. As one of the most modern hockey arenas in Africa, the venue represents a major step forward in sports and entertainment infrastructure, supporting international competitions and large-scale public events.

By combining technical precision, scalability and real-world performance, the installation delivers a future-ready audio solution that enhances both the spectator experience and the operational capabilities of the venue.
