Magic Glaze 5D is the biggest attraction in the cultural centre and tells an entertaining story around the main theme of the park. The requirements given by the client were to find a way to portray the cultural heritage while entertaining people – using state-of-the-art technology in a large and unique venue. That a 5D theatre would be the attraction of choice was quickly decided as the daily guest throughput needed to be large, with the special positioning of the area as not a theme park but rather a tourism and cultural centre. Once the client visited Kraftwerk LT’s 5D Castle Theater in Zhuhai, the largest 5D theater in the world at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, the decision was easy.

Important factors in addition to size and capacity was the need for easy control and operations, remote maintenance capability as well as a ‘wow-factor’ for the guests when entering the theater. It was also clear that the layout will not be one of a regular 4D theater, but something custom and unique. Thus, the idea of a theater with a 360°, dome-like screen and a ceiling projection developed, resembling a pot/kiln.

As design-build vendor and general contractor, Kraftwerk LT was responsible for the attraction design, the hardware, the installation as well as the film. Working closely with visual effects specialist PRANA Studios, a storyline was developed, which then also formed the basis for the attraction design and also shaped the technology used. The overall project was story-driven, with little technical requirements laid out by the client besides using highest quality, implementing a lasting, low-maintenance installation and an exciting outcome.

Magic Glaze 5D is a unique theatre attraction with a 45-metre dome, 800 moving seats, special effects, a state-of-the-art projection system and a unique story built at Tonguan Kiln International Cultural and Tourism Center in Changsha, CN. The technical design seamlessly integrates the cultural centre’s main theme, porcelain craftsmanship, into the attraction. When entering the theatre, guests walk into the interior of a flaming oven – realised with scenic lighting, various projections and fog. Followed by a thrilling 3D adventure, enhanced with precise motion and well-selected SFX, the experience lets the 5D theatre, an entertainment classic, shine in a new and very bright light. Kraftwerk LT was responsible for the technical design, detailed planning, delivery of goods, audiovisual integration as well as programming and commissioning – including all technological components such as the 2D and 3D screens totaling 2,214 m2 of projection surface, the projection and audio system, 800 SFX Motion Seats, show control as well as the water and compressed air system, show lighting and SFX. Magic Glaze 5D is a visitor magnet that leaves people gasping, yelling and laughing from joy.

What also makes this large 5D Theater special, is the seamless integration of the cultural centre’s main theme, porcelain craftsmanship, into the attraction and what this meant for the technology used. When entering the theater, guests walk into the interior of a flaming oven – realized with scenic lighting, various projections and special effects. With this ‘flaming’ atmosphere, the stage is set for a great story and entertaining experience. Enhanced with precise motion and well-selected special effects, the experience excites young and old alike and lets the 5D theater, a theme park classic, shine in a new and very bright light.
