Opened in April 2024, Painted Pickle transforms a former Atlanta warehouse into a high-energy destination where pickleball, dining, and socializing collide. The 32,500-square-foot venue in Armour Yards features eight indoor pickleball courts, one outdoor court, multiple dining areas, a full-service bar, and outdoor patios. For Painted Hospitality CEO Justin Amick, delivering great sound is a top priority for every venue in their portfolio. The brief called for high-performance audio with wide, even coverage across warehouse-scale courts, support for multiple sound zones each with its own atmosphere, and a system robust enough for a dynamic sports entertainment environment.

Sunbelt Technology selected Sonance Professional Series Loudspeakers for their durability, flexibility, and consistent voicing across form factors. While pendant speakers initially seemed ideal for overhead coverage, standard mounting positions risked interference during play. For the indoor courts, the team utilized Professional Series Surface-Mount speakers, strategically installed along structural pillars — delivering even, powerful sound across the playing areas while staying out of the way of players.
Beyond the courts, each entertainment and dining zone was designed with Professional Series loudspeakers depending on the ceiling height and acoustic and visual needs. Pendant and surface-mount speakers provided full coverage in dining areas, bars, and social zones, maintaining consistent tonality across zones so guests could move from the courts to dining and bar areas without experiencing abrupt changes in sound quality.
Even the outdoor patios utilized Sonance speakers, ensuring high-performance audio that could withstand the elements while delivering rich, controlled sound for al fresco dining and socializing.
The end result was a fully integrated, multi-zone audio system with consistent voicing, flexible mounting options, and optimal coverage. Additionally, the integrated bass response reduced the need for additional subwoofers, simplifying installation and minimizing equipment.

The industrial, open-ceiling design gives Painted Pickle its striking character but also posed major acoustic challenges. Sunbelt Technology faced the challenge of providing high-performance audio that could handle the dynamic environment of a busy sports venue — wide, even coverage across warehouse-scale courts while keeping speakers safely out of the way, and support for multiple sound zones without compromising a cohesive overall experience.
While pendant speakers initially seemed ideal for overhead coverage, standard mounting positions risked interference during play. As Wes Bradshaw explains: “The indoor courts are in this huge, open space with high ceilings. Pendant speakers in standard positions would either get damaged by balls or force players to worry about hitting them.” The solution was to utilize Professional Series Surface-Mount speakers, strategically installed along structural pillars — delivering even, powerful sound across the playing areas while staying completely out of the way of players.
Beyond the courts, each entertainment and dining zone required its own approach depending on ceiling height and acoustic and visual needs, while maintaining consistent tonality across zones. Pendant and surface-mount speakers provided full coverage in dining areas, bars, and social zones, ensuring guests could move through the venue without experiencing abrupt changes in sound quality.
The outdoor patios added further complexity, requiring speakers capable of withstanding the elements while delivering rich, controlled sound. Sonance Professional Series speakers fulfilled this requirement within the same product ecosystem, keeping the overall system unified and manageable.

Painted Pickle showcases a new approach to sound in sport entertainment venues — one that blends design flexibility, acoustic integrity, and technical creativity.
The pillar-mount solution for the indoor courts is a standout example of installation problem-solving. Faced with a direct conflict between optimal acoustic coverage and player safety, Sunbelt Technology found an approach that satisfied both without compromise — delivering even, high-energy sound across eight active courts while keeping every speaker safely out of the field of play.
Equally impressive is the system’s consistency across zones. Consistent voicing across pendant, in-ceiling, and surface-mount form factors means guests move from the courts to the dining areas to the outdoor patios without experiencing abrupt changes in sound quality — the venue sounds like one installation, not a collection of separate solutions. As an added benefit, the integrated bass response reduced the need for additional subwoofers, simplifying installation and minimizing equipment.
The broader impact of this project extends beyond the venue itself. The success of Painted Pickle has influenced Painted Hospitality’s expansion plans, including their upcoming venue Painted Park. The proven partnership between Sonance and Sunbelt Technology has become a cornerstone of their development strategy — a clear sign that this installation has earned lasting trust.
For integrators and venue operators, Painted Pickle demonstrates how strategic audio design can elevate both play and atmosphere. As Justin Amick, CEO of Painted Hospitality, puts it: “At Painted Pickle, we’re all about curating vibe as much as venue. Sonance helps us do both. Their sound solutions elevate every moment, from pickleball rallies to cocktail clinks, so guests don’t just hear the energy, they feel it.”
