Set in the rolling hills of the Danish countryside, HimmerLand Golf and Spa Resort is an idyllic paradise in which to detach and unwind. Combining a luxury spa and golf retreat with award-winning bistros, a bowling alley, outdoor sporting activities and flexible meeting spaces, the resort has become known as the place where leisure, pampering and professionalism meet.

HimmerLand has recently expanded its facilities to allow guests to get even more out of their stay. Leading the AV design and integration of HimmerLand’s new expansion was COMM2IG – a Danish company specialising in technology solutions – who opted for a Genelec Smart IP networked loudspeaker system for the new meeting spaces and Larsens Sports Bar & Bistro. The system comprises seventeen 4430 models and eleven 4420 models – configured using Smart IP Manager software – alongside a selection of Sony BZ40 screens and wider technology from Epson, Barco, AMX and Martin Professional.

Six Genelec 4430 loudspeakers were chosen for the smaller meeting rooms because of their excellent off-axis dispersion characteristics and elegant Nordic design. The Smart IP models were an excellent fit as they offer a local analogue input in addition to being a networked IP solution – making them completely flexible. They can also be monitored remotely, which is great for troubleshooting.

Following the success of the Smart IP solution in the meeting rooms, COMM2IG looked again to Genelec for help with HimmerLand’s on-site bar, Larsens Sports Bar & Bistro. The integrators decided on another Smart IP solution – a combination of the 4420 and 4430 models, again with Genelec’s Smart IP Manager software. The software tool can handle room equalisation, system organisation, status monitoring and more, ensuring that the Smart IP system is performing at its very best – in any acoustic environment.

On the ground floor of the bar, COMM2IG supplied a Smart IP solution across the entrance hall, bar area, seating area and a VIP space for private parties. On the first floor, the volume is louder as it caters for a more typical sports bar/nightclub vibe, so most of the loudspeakers are installed there, alongside a SpeechLine Digital Wireless microphone from Sennheiser. The resort even has a children’s playroom with interactive projection that also benefits from a Smart IP solution. Q-SYS is used to control the audio on a Dante network.

Sony BZ40 series screens – ranging from 43” to 100” – are installed throughout the meeting rooms, and are generally used to show work presentations and corporate content. A further four screens in Larsens Sports Bar and Bistro are used to screen sports games as guests enjoy a drink in the bar.

Video distribution is AV-over-IP via AMX Svsi N1000 and N2300 series. These encoders and decoders distribute sustainable, vibrant 4K video – making them the ideal choice for hotel projects where a scalable system is needed. Wireless presentation in the meeting rooms comes from Barco Clickshare C and CX series and an Epson beamer with a 7000 – 20.000 Ansi lumen range.

HimmerLand benefits from decorative lighting via 90 Martin Professional ELP par with intelligent rigging and control features. These are attached to a Euro truss FD34 and are controlled using Move Cat cranes.

The main challenge with the HimmerLand project was the new brief for the Larsens Sports Bar and Bistro, which arrived unexpectedly in the middle of the meeting room installation. COMM2IG only had five months to turn around the AV renovation of Larsens but managed to meet the time frame with the help of HimmerLand’s on-site team.

Choosing the Smart IP Series – which uses just a single CAT cable for power, networking and control – meant that the hotel’s electricians were able to take care of all the network cabling themselves, so that COMM2IG didn’t have to come back and do any analogue wiring. The Smart IP models are also incredibly easy to set up and use, so once the installation was complete, the staff at HimmerLand were able to use it straight away without any problems.

HimmerLand is a perfect example of a modern networked AV installation – flexible, scalable and very cost effective to install.
COMM2IG adapted quickly when given a new brief mid-project and delivered an installation that met HimmerLand’s needs in a very short space of time.
Genelec and HimmerLand share the same corporate commitment to sustainability.
Smart IP products are manufactured sustainably in Finland, with recycled aluminium enclosures, low power consumption and reduced cable requirements.
HimmerLand is a great example of how to elevate the offering of a hotel via high-quality audio-visual technology.

“The feedback from the client has been exceptional. Everyone is really happy with the system and how it looks. The loudspeakers slot well into the design of the resort – you don’t really notice them. The sound is amazing and, most importantly, sustainable. We know that the new system will serve HimmerLand well – for many years to come.” – Søren Maibom, solution manager and sound designer at COMM2IG.
