As part of our ongoing collaboration with Changi Airport Group, Moment Factory was mandated to design two new fun and inspiring multimedia experiences for the Changi Experience Studio, a unique visitor attraction located within the airport’s groundbreaking Jewel mixed-use destination.

Amazing Runway
The Changi Experience Studio strives to go beyond entertainment, to encourage the physical health and well-being of travellers. With this challenge in mind, we created ‘Amazing Runway’, an interactive multiplayer game for up to ten participants, inspired by the airport’s 2009 legendary race between a Boeing 747 and a Porsche Carrera. As visitors pedal custom-built stationary bicycles, they team up to accelerate their famous vehicles down an immersive digital runway towards the finish line, in an exciting, richly animated competition.

Finale
As the world’s top-ranked airport, Changi has sparked deep public interest in its success story of innovation and excellence. To satisfy the curiosity of visitors, our creative teams also conceived and produced ‘Finale’–an exciting virtual journey into Changi Airport’s dramatic history and its visionary dreams for the future, all set on a 180º screen.

Using Unity3D, the car and plane engines’ audio react in real time to the team’s performances. Physical lighting was controlled using Unity3D as well. Lights react to the various states of the game and to each participant’s input. We used the various physical lights as a continuity to some of the effects generated in real time on the screen. The visuals had a high-end video game look. The visuals were processed using RGBlink Venus7 video processors that take the video output from the computer and displays it on the LED screen.

Users have to log in to the experience using an RFID-enabled ticket linked to his profile. During the race, each player’s score is shown via a leaderboard using the player’s name, retrieved using the RFID tag. Crossing the finish line of the race triggers a photo capture that users can get after the experience. Each user can retrieve its picture with its user profile.

Amazing Runway
The biggest difficulty was to create comfortable, safe and reliable bikes following the innovative concept. The unusual shape was challenging. It was difficult to keep the style while being ergonomic and able to hide all the technology inside. We needed to do many alterations before reaching a great balance between look and user experience.

Finale
The circular 180-degree screen of the Finale was challenging. We needed to do many mockups, alterations and 3D visualisation to find the best viewpoint for the biggest number of people. The shape of the room and the lights were designed to encourage the public to stay at the best position to enjoy the experience.
