Symphony of the Sea (SOTS) was commissioned by Sun Group as the flagship nighttime attraction for Sunset Town, Phu Quoc—designed to transform the destination into a premier after-dark tourism icon.
Laservision, in collaboration with H2O Events and Sun Group Entertainment, delivered a world-class multimedia spectacular staged directly on Sunset Bay. Combining lighting, lasers, pyrotechnics, immersive audio, and extreme high-speed water-based performances, the show creates a dynamic, high-energy aquatic experience.
Performed nightly, Symphony of the Sea redefines waterfront entertainment, extends visitor engagement into the evening, and establishes a new benchmark for large-scale, destination-driven attractions in Southeast Asia.

Delivering a fully immersive audio experience presented a significant challenge, requiring seamless coverage for audiences positioned 360 degrees around Sunset Bay. With premium sightlines and surrounding hotel viewpoints to protect, speaker systems could not obstruct views, demanding a highly integrated and discreet design approach.
Audio forms the emotional backbone of Symphony of the Sea, with a bespoke musical score crafted to drive the narrative and pacing of the show. The score precisely synchronises lighting, laser effects, pyrotechnics, and live performer choreography, creating a unified, emotionally resonant multimedia experience.
To realise this vision, a network of slimline speakers was expertly embedded within the architectural landmark, the KISS Bridge, delivering consistent, high-fidelity sound without compromising visual integrity. To achieve the required SPL and low-frequency impact, additional audio towers featuring line array systems and subwoofers were strategically installed, creating a fully integrated, full-range solution across the beach and restaurant areas.
In total, over 230 individual loudspeakers were deployed across the viewing precinct, supported by custom-designed, air-conditioned control racks housing dedicated networking and amplification systems. A fully integrated remote monitoring system enables real-time control from a central command room, ensuring consistent performance, operational efficiency, and a powerful, seamless audience experience.

The lighting design for Symphony of the Sea presented a unique set of challenges, driven by the show’s “in-the-round” format and dynamic marine environment. The system was required not only to precisely illuminate performers within the water, but also to extend beyond the performance zone—activating the entire precinct and creating a destination-scale visual experience.
Significant variations in ambient light—from brightly lit surrounding buildings to areas of near-total darkness—required a carefully balanced and strategic approach. A combination of architectural lighting, wash lighting, and intelligent fixtures was deployed to ensure consistent performer visibility, enhanced colour rendering, audience safety, and visual cohesion across the site.
To further enhance performance visibility and storytelling, customised waterproof LED costumes—developed by Bao Rong—were created for the performers. Featuring embedded lighting elements, these costumes delivered dynamic, choreographed effects that synchronised with key moments in the show, reinforcing the colour palette of each scene and elevating the visual impact of the performance.
Both fixture selection and programming were critical challenges due to constant exposure to harsh marine conditions and the fast-paced nature of the performance. Equipment needed to deliver durability and reliability, while programming required precise synchronisation to capture high-speed water-based choreography and ensure nightly repeatability. This was achieved through weeks of close collaboration between H2O Events and Laservision, resulting in a finely tuned and resilient lighting system.
Importantly, the lighting design enhances performer visibility with vibrant colour and clarity, while also projecting into the skyline through integrated lighting and laser systems. Visible from kilometres away, the show becomes a powerful visual beacon, establishing Sunset Town as an iconic nighttime landmark.

The visual impact of Symphony of the Sea is driven by the seamless integration of multiple creative mediums—lighting, lasers, pyrotechnics, water effects, and live performance—synchronised through a precisely choreographed audiovisual narrative. Together, these elements create a truly spectacular, immersive experience that captivates audiences throughout the full 23-minute performance.
The show is carefully structured with dynamic shifts in intensity, balancing high-energy, fast-paced sequences with more intimate, emotive moments. This contrast allows the audience to fully engage with the narrative, creating rhythm, anticipation, and emotional depth.
The unique waterfront setting enables close interaction between performers and audience, particularly along the KISS Bridge, where performers engage directly with guests—reinforcing the symbolic design intent of connection and human interaction.
Visually, the production blends bold, high-impact spectacle with refined, cinematic moments. Lighting creates movement and texture across water and architecture, while lasers and searchlights extend the performance into the night sky, transforming the entire precinct into a unified visual canvas.
Combined with the emotive musical score, these elements deliver a mesmerising, large-scale visual experience that is both intimate and epic—establishing Symphony of the Sea as a landmark nighttime spectacle.

The visual power of Symphony of the Sea is further amplified through an extensive and highly choreographed special effects system. Pyrotechnics are seamlessly integrated throughout the performance, with water-based performers and jet skis equipped with onboard effects, enabling dynamic, mobile pyrotechnic moments that move fluidly across the bay.
A dedicated pyrotechnics barge positioned at the centre of the performance arena delivers large-scale effects, precisely synchronised with key moments in the narrative. Across the 23-minute show, tens of thousands of individual pyrotechnic shots are deployed with precision—strategically timed to accentuate climactic beats and enhance the overall dramatic impact.
Lasers play a dual role within the production, operating at both monumental and intimate scales. High-powered laser systems extend far beyond the performance zone, creating striking aerial effects visible from across the precinct and surrounding areas. Simultaneously, lasers are used at close range to interact directly with live performers, enhancing choreography and drawing the audience deeper into the action.
Additional effects, including performer-mounted pyrotechnics on flyboards and custom-designed backpacks, introduce a unique level of visual complexity and innovation. These layered elements combine to create a rich, multi-dimensional spectacle—demonstrating exceptional technical integration and delivering a visually arresting, world-class entertainment experience.

A critical factor in the success of Symphony of the Sea is the integration of elite live performance within a complex and ever-changing natural environment. The production features over 25 performers operating across Sunset Bay, where swell, tides, and environmental conditions directly influence performance. Delivering precise, high-speed choreography under these variables requires exceptional skill, with elite athletes executing tightly coordinated sequences, often intersecting at speed across the water.
Performing entirely at night introduces additional complexity, demanding heightened precision, spatial awareness, and technical coordination. This live performance is elevated through the seamless integration of lighting, lasers, immersive audio, bespoke musical scoring, and pyrotechnics—each element synchronised to function as a unified system.
The true achievement lies in this synchronisation. Countless weeks of collaboration between creative and technical teams—including lighting, laser programming, choreography, and production—were required to craft a cohesive 23-minute experience. The result is a carefully balanced performance that blends high-energy spectacle with intimate, emotive moments, creating rhythm, contrast, and strong audience connection.
Set within a natural environment, no two performances are ever identical. Changing weather conditions subtly transform each show, with elements such as rain interacting with light and lasers to create unique visual effects. While meticulously choreographed, the production remains responsive to its surroundings—delivering a dynamic, immersive experience that is both technically precise and organically alive.

A primary challenge in delivering Symphony of the Sea was designing a truly “in-the-round” experience across a large, open-water performance arena, ensuring every audience vantage point received an equally compelling and immersive experience. With audiences positioned in close proximity to the action, choreography had to be carefully structured to create layered moments of engagement—allowing direct interaction in some zones, while simultaneously maintaining high-impact visual storytelling for wider audiences across the bay.
The asymmetrical nature of the site introduced further complexity, requiring precise equipment placement to achieve visual balance and consistent coverage. Lighting and effects systems were meticulously positioned to ensure all performers were clearly visible from multiple viewing angles, while maintaining a cohesive and symmetrical visual outcome across an inherently irregular environment.
Operational constraints also presented significant challenges. As Sunset Town is a fully active precinct, installation works had to be carefully staged and largely undertaken during evening hours to minimise disruption. This required detailed planning, coordination, and adaptive methodologies to safely and efficiently deliver the project within a live environment.
Additionally, achieving consistent illumination of high-speed water-based performers across a constantly shifting surface required advanced design and programming solutions. These challenges were successfully overcome through close collaboration between creative and technical teams, resulting in a seamlessly integrated, high-performance production that delivers a world-class audience experience from every perspective.

Symphony of the Sea sets a new benchmark for integrated entertainment design by seamlessly combining advanced technical systems with a deeply immersive audience experience in one of the most challenging environments—a live, open-water, 360-degree performance arena.
What distinguishes this project is its scale and level of integration. Over 230 distributed loudspeakers, complex lighting and laser systems, large-scale pyrotechnics, and high-speed live performers are synchronised through a precisely engineered control ecosystem, enabling a cohesive and repeatable 23-minute spectacle delivered nightly with exceptional consistency.
Beyond its technical achievement, the show has demonstrated outstanding commercial and operational success. Attracting over 4,000 visitors per night, seven days a week, Symphony of the Sea has become a cornerstone of Sunset Town’s tourism offering. Audience demand has driven multiple expansions of the primary hospitality zone at Sun Bavaria to accommodate continued sell-out performances. Originally conceived as a seasonal activation, the show has transitioned into a permanent attraction—highlighting its sustained popularity and long-term value.
The production has also become an iconic symbol of Sunset Town, recognised both locally and internationally as a must-see destination experience. By combining live extreme sports performance with lighting, lasers, pyrotechnics, and immersive audio, the show transforms Sunset Bay into a globally recognised nighttime landmark.
Through its fusion of technical innovation, creative excellence, and proven audience impact, Symphony of the Sea redefines waterfront entertainment—making it a deserving recipient of the MONDO-DR Parks & Attractions Award.
