The Sarawak Blessed Church’s 4,600-seat multi-tiered auditorium required a precision-engineered audio system to ensure uniform coverage and clarity across VIP sections, balconies, and reverberant zones. The design prioritised seamless acoustical integration, leveraging d&b audiotechnik technology for immersive, feedback-resistant sound.

SYSTEM DESIGN

• Front of House (FOH): Twenty-four d&b KSL line array speakers (12/side) delivered cardioid dispersion for consistent coverage and minimised stage feedback.

• Low-Frequency Support: Six ground-stacked GSL subwoofers and three flown KSL subs ensured controlled bass extension and punchy low-mid frequencies.

• Front-Fill & Lateral Coverage: Eight T10P speakers addressed front-row gaps, while Y10P units optimised dispersion to distant seats.

• Balcony Reinforcement: Main KSL arrays covered upper balconies, while six horizontal T10Ps eliminated acoustic shadows in lower tiers.

• Stage Monitoring: Eight M4 monitors provided performers with precise, versatile audio for vocals and instruments.

PERFORMANCE & OUTCOMES

The system achieved uniform SPL distribution, phase coherence, and frequency response across all tiers.

Advanced Array Processing and subwoofer alignment enhanced speech intelligibility and musical fidelity, even in challenging acoustical zones.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

Users praised the system’s immersive dynamics, seamless coverage, and detailed clarity during worship, music, and spoken word. Highlights included impactful low-frequency effects and consistent audio quality in reverberant areas, creating an engaging auditory experience for all attendees.

The installation successfully balanced technical precision with the venue’s architectural demands, demonstrating a good example for large-scale worship spaces.

During the installation of the audio system at Sarawak Blessed Church, structural limitations posed significant challenges.

The existing support structure lacked the necessary load-bearing capacity to accommodate the line array system safely.

The rigging bars for the d&b KSL line arrays were designed to be suspended using a motorised hoist, requiring precise load distribution to ensure both stability and optimal positioning.

To address this issue, the Civil & Structural Engineering team had to conduct a comprehensive recalculation of the structural load capacity. Adjustments were necessary to reinforce the mounting points and confirm that the hoist and rigging system could securely support the speaker arrays without compromising safety.

Despite these challenges, the collaborative effort between the engineering and installation teams ensured a successful outcome, achieving the desired audio performance while maintaining structural integrity.

The Sarawak Blessed Church, a revered 4,600-seat worship space in Malaysia, required an audio solution balancing technical precision with spiritual reverence. Search Music Sdn. Bhd. is honoured to collaborate on this project, crafting a d&b audiotechnik system that addresses both acoustic challenges and the congregation’s needs.

Innovative, Client-Centered Audio Design
Guided by the church’s vision, we deployed a tailored d&b audiotechnik system. The Front of House setup featured 24 KSL line arrays with cardioid dispersion, positioned to balance coverage and sanctity. Hybrid ground-stacked/flown GSL/KSL subwoofers ensured controlled bass, while T10P/Y10P speakers resolved acoustic shadows across tiers. Our focus was clarity without intrusion, fostering connection through immersive sound.

Technical Rigor in Service of Community

Array Processing and subwoofer alignment prioritised speech intelligibility in reverberant zones, maintaining phase coherence across balconies and distant seats. Success is measured not by specifications alone but by congregants’ feedback: worship and music now resonate with emotional depth and accessibility. This human impact—not technical metrics—drives our purpose.

Collaborative Problem-Solving Under Constraints

A key challenge emerged when structural limitations risked delays. The existing supports couldn’t bear the rigging load, requiring partnership with engineers to recalculate and reinforce mounting points. This collaborative effort reaffirmed our commitment to safety and adaptive problem-solving, resulting in a resilient, ethically engineered solution.

Conclusion: A Shared Achievement

This project reflects the trust of Sarawak Blessed Church, the ingenuity of engineers, and our team’s dedication. We are grateful to contribute to a space uniting thousands through sound.
