Niagara Parks aimed to transform the former Niagara’s Fury space into a world-class attraction that would deepen visitors’ connection to Niagara Falls through immersive storytelling and technology.

The brief called for a flying theatre capable of handling high visitor volumes while delivering a visually spectacular journey across the Niagara region.

BranchAV was engaged to design and integrate the attraction’s audiovisual systems, enabling seamless large-scale projection, synchronised media playback, spatial audio, and show control.

The result is Niagara Takes Flight, an immersive experience combining advanced AV technology with cinematic storytelling to showcase one of the world’s most iconic natural destinations.

Branch AV designed and integrated the audio system for Niagara Takes Flight preshow to support the attraction’s fully immersive flying theatre experience. Working closely with the engineering team at 1 SOUND, the system was developed to deliver powerful, high-fidelity sound with consistent coverage across the preshow area while maintaining precise synchronisation with media and show control systems.

A distributed loudspeaker system using 1 SOUND technology was carefully modelled and positioned in each preshow area to ensure even coverage and reinforce the dynamics of the audio content and special effects. System tuning and processing were optimised to produce a dynamic and enveloping soundscape that enhances the visual journey across the Niagara region.

Environmental cues such as rushing water, wind, wildlife, and musical score move seamlessly through the space, reinforcing the sensation of flight and helping to guide the audience’s emotional connection to the show story.

Reliability and repeatability were key considerations due to the attraction’s high daily throughput. Branch AV engineered the system for consistent performance across continuous show cycles, integrating audio playback and control tightly with the attraction’s show systems to ensure precise timing and operational stability.

The result is a robust, cinematic audio environment that fully supports the visual spectacle of Niagara Takes Flight, immersing audiences in the sights and sounds of one of the world’s most iconic natural destinations.

Branch AV collaborated with Media Resources (MRI) to deliver the visual systems that power the Niagara Takes Flight flying theatre experience. The installation was designed to produce a seamless, high-impact visual environment capable of supporting a large-format media presentation within the preshow.

High-brightness projection and carefully engineered screen geometry ensure consistent image quality, colour accuracy, and brightness across the entire audience platform.

The visual system was integrated with the attraction’s media playback and show control systems to maintain precise synchronization. This coordination is critical in an immersive environment, where visual timing directly influences the audience’s perception.

Through close collaboration between Branch AV and Media Resources, the visual infrastructure was engineered for both performance and reliability, supporting continuous operation in a high-traffic attraction setting. The result is a visually immersive environment that tells the story of the Niagara Falls from an indigenous, geographical and historical perspective.

The installation presented several technical challenges, primarily around integrating the audiovisual systems with the attraction’s media servers, ride platform, lighting control and centralized show control environment. Precise synchronization between video playback, motion cues, and audio was critical to maintaining guest flow while preserving the immersive experience. This required careful coordination and programming of system timing and signal distribution across multiple platforms.

Branch AV worked closely with Niagara Parks Commision, Brogent Technologies, and the wider project team to integrate audio, video, lighting and show control systems.

Detailed calibration and show alignment were required so that visual content, media programming, and spatial audio remained perfectly synchronized throughout each show cycle.

Extensive commissioning and testing were carried out to verify timing accuracy, system reliability, and operational stability.

Through careful integration and collaboration across disciplines, the team delivered a robust AV infrastructure capable of maintaining precise show control and consistent performance within a demanding, high-throughput attraction environment.

Niagara Takes Flight demonstrates how advanced audiovisual technology can transform a visitor attraction at one of the world’s most globally recognised natural landmarks.

Located at Table Rock Centre on the brink of Niagara Falls, the installation combines large-format projection, synchronised media playback, spatial audio, motion-based ride technology that includes wind, mist and scent to create a seamless flying theatre experience that immerses audiences in the landscapes and stories of the Niagara region.

Branch AV worked in close collaboration with partners including Media Resources (MRI), 1 SOUND, Alcorn McBride, Hive and Brogent Technologies to integrate complex media server requirements, projection systems, spatial audio infrastructure, and show control into a precisely synchronised environment.

Diligent system design, calibration, and commissioning ensure that visuals, motion, and audio remain perfectly aligned across every ride cycle.

Since opening in August 2025, Niagara Takes Flight has welcomed more than 500,000 visitors and has quickly become one of the marquee attractions in the Niagara region, demonstrating how thoughtfully integrated AV technology can elevate storytelling and deliver a reliable, cinematic experience to thousands of guests each day.
