Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is not just a hotel; it is a living museum of Tuscan culture and craftsmanship.

Located in the UNESCO-protected Val d’Orcia valley, this 5,000-acre estate features 6 suits and 11 meticulously restored villas—former 17th- and 18th-century farmhouses that have been transformed into ultra-private luxury residences.

Each villa is enveloped in nature, art, and centuries-old history, while offering modern comforts like heated infinity pools, curated gardens, and bespoke interiors designed by artisans and Florentine craftsmen.

Multi-zone AV is powered by Sonos Port and Amp systems, fully integrated with Crestron Home. Guests can stream Spotify, Apple Music, or curated playlists wirelessly, with each room operating independently or as part of a whole-home audio scene. Audio zones include living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc.—providing consistent sound quality and seamless transitions.

Visual entertainment is provided via integrated Samsung TVs in key spaces, all controllable through TSR-310 remotes and in-wall touchscreens. AV components are also embedded into personalised scenes, allowing guests to adjust music, video, lighting, and climate with a single tap.

Lighting systems across the villas and common areas are managed through Crestron DIN-DIMU4 and DIN-8SW8-I relay modules, providing both dimmable and switched control across all circuits. Scenes such as “Welcome,” “Good Night,” and “Evening” are pre-configured per space, with customization available per guest or function.

Lighting is controlled via TSW-1070 touchscreens, TSR-310 remotes, iPads and mobile devices—with guests able to make quick changes or use preset scenes. Outdoor zones are also included, allowing lights to follow sunset and guest activity.

This project leveraged several third-party integrations and Crestron Home extensions to deliver a comprehensive and intuitive smart environment tailored for luxury hospitality use:

– 2N IP Verso Video Intercom Integration
Integrated with Crestron Home to allow guests to view, communicate with, and grant access to visitors at the villa gates. Integration included the 2N Gold License and mobile video services, enabling remote access via mobile devices and touch panels.

– Sonos Multi-Room Audio Integration
Integrated Sonos Port and Amp systems were used for whole-home and multi-zone music playback. Guests can stream music from Spotify, Apple Music, and other services wirelessly, with zone control available via TSW-1070, TSR-310, and mobile apps.

– Samsung Smart TV Integration
Integrated with Crestron Home for seamless TV control via TSR-310 handheld remotes. Allows guests to control AV sources, volume, and power within scenes.

The villas and shared spaces use a network of HZ-THSTAT Crestron thermostats, distributed across individual rooms and climate zones. Each zone offers manual and automated control via wall interfaces or iPads. Fan speeds, temperature ranges, and Celsius/Fahrenheit toggling are supported.
Using 2N IP Verso intercoms, guests can communicate with gates, see visitors via camera, and grant access—all from Crestron interfaces or mobile devices. Rosewood staff can also access these systems remotely.

We installed a mix of:
TSW-1070 10” in-wall touchscreens
TSR-310 remotes
Pre-configured iPads and Crestron mobile app
Crestron XPanel
All UIs were custom-themed to match the Rosewood brand, with multilingual options and user-friendly scene navigation.

The client’s vision extended far beyond simply automating lights or climate systems. Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco wanted each villa to offer an experience that felt simultaneously intimate, luxurious, and effortless—as if the property itself anticipated the needs of its guests.

At the same time, operational requirements called for efficient remote management, minimal maintenance, and a consistent backend platform for staff.

The villas had to remain:
 Autonomous, so each guest felt completely at home
 Responsive, adjusting to changing environmental and personal preferences
 Seamless, integrating all subsystems under one elegant interface
 Invisible, so as not to disrupt the historic charm of the architecture
From a technical standpoint, we needed to:
 Enable room-by-room lighting control and whole-home scenes
 Provide climate zoning that respected individual guest comfort while optimising energy use
 Integrate a video intercom system with secure gate control
 Deliver multi-room audio and video, without a visible trace of tech
 Provide remote access for Rosewood’s staff to reset or support systems

As we developed the system, the client’s needs evolved. They requested additional features like mobile gate access, spa music presets, and adaptive modes that subtly adjust lights, play music, and shift temperature settings—all in a single scene.

The historic construction posed its own challenges. Thick stone walls created RF isolation, and cable runs had to be planned with surgical precision to avoid damaging original architecture. We overcame this through hybrid cabling (Cat6 + PoE), signal repeaters, and extensive pre-install planning with the design and engineering teams.

The result? Each villa now responds organically to the guests’ lifestyle and the environment, while the estate team can manage, monitor, and maintain the system with ease—delivering luxury without complexity.

This project represents the pinnacle of what smart automation can achieve in a hospitality + heritage + design-forward environment. What sets it apart is not just the technology—but how it disappears into the experience.

We didn’t just automate villas; we curated atmospheres. Light scenes don’t simply change lights intensity—they respond to natural light, guest time zones, and music preferences. Climate adjusts not only to external weather but to guest behavior. Intercoms are tied into the ecosystem so that security and service feel seamless. Audio is fluid and ambient—never intrusive.

What also makes this project exceptional is the fusion of consistency and individuality. Every villa runs on the same technological backbone, but each one is uniquely programmed based on layout, lighting design, and guest intent.

Most notably, we managed to hide all of this intelligence—literally. From racks and cabling to interfaces and controls, everything was positioned with design harmony in mind. There are no flashing lights, no clunky tablets—just quiet, elegant control.
